BEHIND THE SCENES AT OUR HANGARS

SPITFIRE FACTORY TOURS

The Biggin Hill Spitfire Factory is a working hangar where you can see Spitfire restoration projects at various stages of completion.

On display you’ll see airframes currently under renovation plus a variety of airworthy Spitfires and other warbird projects awaiting rebuilding. It’s a modern day equivalent to a Wartime Spitfire factory where you can observe skilled engineers using traditional techniques and tools to restore wings, rivet and shape airframe skins and install Merlin engines.

We also operate Spitfire flights most days so often you’ll hear the unmistakeable sound of our Spitfire engines being started and tested outside the hangars. If we are flying our Spitfires on the day of your visit we’ll always endeavour to show you a Spitfire take-off or landing as part of your tour.

Spitfire Factory Tours are led by a knowledgeable guide who will explain the history of each aircraft and answer any questions. Group sizes are deliberately kept small, with usually no more than 10 people per guide, ensuring that visitors can enjoy close, unhindered access to the iconic Spitfire in an unmatched historical setting.

Photography is encouraged of most aircraft (RAF BBMF projects no photography). Please be aware that this is a working hangar facility on a live airfield and there is often loud machinery in operation; it is not suitable for the very young or pets.

Tours are suitable for wheelchair users, the hangars have access ramps throughout and our car park is immediately outside the entrance. All visits and tours must be booked in advance however on the day spaces are sometimes available.
